Hawkeyes Led Prior to Match Cancellation – University of Iowa Athletics

MISSOULA, Mont. — No. 25 University of Iowa Soccer led Oregon State, 2-0, in the second half on Thursday night prior to cancellation due to weather. By rule, the game was deemed no contest.

Matches must reach the 70th minute before they can be marked complete. Thursday’s opening game of the Rumble in the Rockies tournament was postponed in the 46th minute. Though both squads will stay in Missoula, Montana, until the tournament concludes on Sunday, the Beavers opted not to make up the remainder of the second half.

All statistics are void due to the event’s cancellation. Prior to the inclement weather, freshman Berit Parten notched two goals.

The rookie from St. Paul, Minnesota, previously recorded a hat-trick in Iowa’s exhibition against South Dakota last week. Parten would have been the first Hawkeye to record multiple goals in a regular-season game since Hailey Rydberg in 2022.

Parten’s first goal came in the 10th minute on a deflected shot from senior Meike Ingles. Parten fired a quick putback to give the Hawkeyes the lead, and Ingles was credited for the assist.

A short 30 seconds later, Parten struck again, this time forcing a turnover with help from sophomore Sofia Bush. From outside of the box, Parten fired a rocket to the top left corner of the net. Bush would have received an assist on the play.

Iowa outshot the Beavers, 9-1, in the opening period, including seven Hawkeye shots on goal. Goalkeeper Macy Ennneking made one save, and Iowa had a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks.

  • Enneking enters the season with 22 career shutouts and needs four more clean sheets to match the Iowa program record. The Hilliard, Ohio, native also needs 12 wins to match the Hawkeye record for goalkeeper victories. Enneking and the Iowa defense pitched a shutout through 46 minutes.
  • Iowa’s record is 43-2-3 (.927) in its last 48 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October of 2017.
  • The Hawkeyes have won three consecutive season openers dating back to 2021; last season’s opener at Florida Gulf Coast also experienced extended delays due…
