Liverpool have stepped up their talks to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mail Sport revealed earlier this week that the Anfield club were exploring the opportunity to sign one of Europe’s top keepers with the intention of him going on loan elsewhere initially.

Bournemouth had been floated as a possible destination but Liverpool cannot buy then loan to another Premier League club as it is a breach of rules.

A number of permutations are being discussed as Liverpool doubt Mamardashvili would come to be number two to Alisson.

The Brazilian remains Liverpool’s number one and will be possibly for the next two seasons. However, they want to seize the opportunity to snap up a keeper of Mamardashvili’s calibre.

Caoimhin Kelleher could also yet depart this window as he yearns for regular first team football to add another complication to discussions.

No bid had been made as of Tuesday evening but Liverpool remain intent on signing the player over the coming weeks and finding a solution of where he plays his football this season.

Staying on loan at Valencia is also an option.

Meanwhile, QPR remain in talks to sign Liverpool’s Owen Beck on loan. Red Bull Leipzig are discussing an improved offer for Bobby Clark and Leicester retain an interest in winger Ben Doak who has interest from other Premier League and Championship sides.
