Erik ten Hag sends warning over Man Utd’s transfer business

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has called for “patience” in regards to the club’s summer transfer business.

The Red Devils made two impressive acquisitions during July, bringing in striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and then in-demand defender Leny Yoro from Lille.

United have been linked with various other players since, with Bayern Munich duo Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt both of interest, while they have backed away from talks for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manual Ugarte. Everton also rejected two bids for Jarrad Branthwaite towards the start of the window.

However, when asked for an update on United’s elusive third signing of the summer, Ten Hag stressed that he is happy with the club’s business so far as well as the path they are on.

“When we have news, we will announce it,” Ten Hag said. “You see the market is quite quiet still but we have done our business, we have done two deals. “It is about timings and it is about the market options and [ensuring] in the right moment we do the right things.”

When specifically asked about a new midfielder, the Dutchman replied: “I don’t go into details where we are now with recruitment and what we are working on.

“We know what we are doing and I think we are in a good position with the squad.

“For you, just wait, be patient and in the right moment, we will tell you.”

It was then put to Ten Hag that United may need to sell players in order to add to his squad, to which he retorted: “We did it already, we bought already. As I said, we have a squad that, in every position, there is double occupation.”

United return to action on Saturday when they face rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley. They will then begin the new Premier League season next Friday at home to Fulham.
