Ange Postecoglou discusses Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke interest

Richarlison

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has confirmed the club are working to sign a striker amid reports linking them to Dominic Solanke.

It was widely reported on Friday morning that Bournemouth had agreed to sell Solanke for a club-record fee to Spurs, who are expected to pay in the region of £60m all in.

Should a deal be finalised, Solanke will be the first senior striker Tottenham have signed since club legend Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer.

Spurs play Bayern and will welcome Kane back in a friendly at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. At his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou was asked about transfer interest in Solanke and whether he is a belated replacement for Kane.

“I don’t think we have been looking to replace Harry. You can’t really replace a generational player,” he said. “It’s fair to say that’s an area of the park, the front third, that we are looking to reinforce. We are trying hard to get the right kind of players into that area.”

There had been suggestions that Tottenham would need to sell Richarlison in order to fund their search for a new striker. But the Brazilian revealed on Thursday he wants to stay in north London, while Postecoglou claims his future is not ‘uncertain’.

“Not sure where ‘uncertain future’ comes from, not from my behalf,” Postecoglou added. “When [Richarlison] was fit last year, he played all the time and played well.

“This is not about replacing Richy, for us it is about adding to our squad and we want to get better in every transfer window. Having some more quality and depth in that front third means we can protect our players more.”
