USC's Maribel Flores to Compete in U20 World Cup with Mexico

LOS ANGELES – The Mexican Football Federation announced its roster for the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia and USC sophomore Maribel Flores was one of the forwards named to the 25-player squad.
 
The Mexican U20 team will be in training camp until Aug. 19 and then opens up World Cup pool play on Aug. 31 against Cameroon. Mexico also faces Australia on Sept. 3 and tournament hosts Colombia on Sept. 6 before the start of the knockout rounds.
 
Flores is no stranger to World Cup play, having previously competed with the Mexican squad at the 2022 U17 World Cup. She also scored eight goals and posted seven assists in the 2022 U17 CONCACAF Tournament and helped Mexico to a U20 CONCACAF Championship in 2023. Flores spent time in camp with the Mexican U20 side from Sept. 17-26 during last season at USC.
 
The 2023 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Flores posted six goals and five assists for the Trojans in her inaugural season, also earning All-American second team status. Her six goals led all freshmen in the conference and her 17 total points were 11th overall in the league.
