France vs Brazil: Preview, predictions, team news

Wendie Renard

France will face off against Brazil in the last quarter-finals fixture at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, but both teams could be without their captains on Saturday.

France came into the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as one of the favorites to win gold behind Spain and the USWNT. Despite losing to Canada, the host nation still finished atop Group A with six points (thanks to Canada’s six point deduction), and gets to face a weakened Brazilian side in the quarter-finals.

The Selecao’s 2024 Olympics campaign has left plenty to be desired. After winning their first match against Nigeria, Brazil lost their next two, including a monumental collapse against Japan. They still managed to advance to the knockout stage as the second-best third place team, but they will have a lot of work to do if they want to beat France in Nantes.

Here’s 90min’s guide to France vs Brazil at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Wendie Renard is a doubt for France’s quarter-finals bout. The center-back missed the final Group A fixture against New Zealand after a thigh injury forced her off the pitch in the match prior. If France’s captain is not fit to play, expect Elisa de Almeida to start in her place.

Sakina Karchaoui and Selma Bacha also underwent examinations and missed training, making them questionable for Saturday’s match.

France predicted lineup vs Brazil ( 4-3-3 ): Peyraud-Magnin; Lakrar, Mbock, Renard, Karchaoui; Geyoro, Toletti, Dali; Diani, Katoto, Cascarino

Brazil will be without their leader, Marta, in their match against France. The captain was sent off against Spain for a dangerous high boot, and will serve her suspension on Saturday. If Brazil do not win, Marta will be forced to sit and watch her team crash out of her final Olympics tournament.
