How injury worry deterred PSG from signing Leny Yoro

Paris Saint-Germain opted against pursuing a deal for new Manchester United signing Leny Yoro due concerns over the teenage defender’s fitness, according to a report.

The 18-year-old made the move to Old Trafford in mid July after the Red Devils surged ahead of competitors Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

Yoro impressed during his first outing for his new club in pre-season, playing a half in the 2-0 victory over Rangers. However, he sustained a foot problem in the first game of their tour of the United States, having to be replaced 35 minutes into the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The defender will be out of action for close to three months, while manager Erik ten Hag has also been dealt a blow in attack with striker Rasmus Hojlund sidelined until after the September international break.

In the wake of Yoro’s setback, L’Equipe have revealed PSG knew about a claimed ‘fragility’ and that played a role in the French giants not trying to sign him from former club Lille.

Les Parisiens have had a quiet summer transfer window so far, with their only incoming arrival being goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. They are widely reported to be closing in Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, with former wonderkid Renato Sanches going the other way on loan.

United have more injury worries on top of Yoro’s absence. Marcus Rashford took a blow to the ankle during the friendly victory over Real Betis and the England international was seen limping through the mixed zone after the game.

The Premier League giants have one more match of their tour of the US left before returning to England. They take on Liverpool in the early hours of Sunday morning before battling Manchester City in the Community Shield the following weekend.
