Man Utd in ‘advanced talks’ to sign West Ham target after deal collapses

Noussair Mazraoui

Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich after the breakdown of a proposed move to West Ham United.

West Ham are prioritising the signing of a new right-back after losing academy graduate Ben Johnson to Ipswich Town on a free transfer, having already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham.

Man Utd’s desire to bring in a new right-back is also well known, although their willingness to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has just one year remaining on his Old Trafford contract, is yet to lead to a summer sale.

Wan-Bissaka has been targeted by West Ham, alongside Mazraoui and Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, but reports allege that the 26-year-old does not want to move to London Stadium and is instead hopeful that Serie A champions Inter will make a move.

West Ham had hoped to lure Mazraoui to the capital from Bavarian giants Bayern Munich, where he is not guaranteed to play regular first-team football under new head coach Vincent Kompany.

A deal worth an initial €15.5m (£12.7m) plus €4m in add-ons had been agreed between West Ham and Bayern, but Sky Germany first reported that negotiations have broken down because the Hammers have been unable to agree personal terms with the Moroccan’s camp.

That has seemingly opened the door for Man Utd to reignite their own move for Mazraoui, and talks between the 13-time Premier League winners and Bayern are said to be at an ‘advanced’ stage.

Man Utd’s ability to get a deal done will hinge on selling Wan-Bissaka, with manager Erik ten Hag previously admitting that the Red Devils will need to fund further transfer dealings with outgoings – they’ve already spent lavishly on teenage prodigy Leny Yoro and Dutch international striker Joshua Zirkzee.

Ten Hag is also hopeful of bringing in fellow countryman Matthijs de Ligt, who is also currently at Bayern, but negotiations have dragged on for several weeks as the Bundesliga side continue to stand firm on their €50m (£42.3m) valuation.
