Man Utd willing to sanction Antony exit on one condition

Manchester United will allow Antony to leave on loan this summer as long as his full wage-packet is covered, according to a report.

Antony joined United from Ajax for an initial £82m towards the end of the summer 2022 transfer window, reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Despite a promising start which yielded three goals from his first three Premier League matches, Antony is now widely considered one of the Red Devils’ worst-value signings in recent years. During the 2023/24 season, he registered just one goal and one assist in a Premier League campaign that saw United finish a club-record low of eighth place.

ESPN now report that United are willing to part ways with Antony on a temporary basis, but only if an interested club is prepared to take on his wages for the new season.

The Brazil international, who did not make the final cut for this summer’s Copa America, is believed to earn £70,000-a-week.

Antony is not the only United player on the chopping block, with the club keen to shift several first-team players this summer as part of a ‘clear-out’.

Defenders Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will all be allowed to leave for the right price, as are midfielders Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay.

United have already sold Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Alvaro Fernandez, and Anthony Martial’s nine-year stay at Old Trafford came to an end last month after the club decided not to renew his expiring contract.

In terms of incomings, United have confirmed the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro in the last few days. They could make renewed attempts to sign Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, but the feeling from within the club is they will no longer panic in the transfer market under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new footballing structure.
