Rennie Named to New Zealand Roster for 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Sun Devil Soccer’s Gabi Rennie is one of 18 players named to represent Aotearoa New Zealand in the women’s football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She will be competing with New Zealand at the Olympics for the second time.

Rennie will become the second Sun Devil in the soccer program’s history to represent their country at an Olympiad. Amy LePeilbet competed for the United States at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Rennie is also the fourth ASU student-athlete to represent New Zealand and the first since 1992.

In two seasons as a Sun Devil, Rennie appeared in 28 games (12 starts) and played a total of 1,438 minutes. She tallied three assists as a junior during the 2022 season and then scored three goals as a senior in 2023. She helped the Sun Devils make consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history.

Rennie – who plays professionally for Åland United in Finland – has 37 caps with the New Zealand. She also played in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, scoring a goal against Australia. Rennie also appeared briefly for the host nation in the team’s opener of the  2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup before returning to ASU for her senior season.

At Paris 2024, New Zealand has been drawn in Group A alongside reigning champions Canada, Colombia, and hosts France. They kick off the tournament on July 25 against Canada in Saint-Etienne before facing Colombia on July 28 and France on July 31, both in Lyon.

The team played Zambia to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in an international friendly and warmup for the Olympic Tournament.
