Women’s Soccer | July 01, 2024

LOS ANGELES – Canada Soccer and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced the Canadian Women’s National Team roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics this week and USC women’s soccer standout Simi Awujo was named to the squad.

It will be the first Olympic Games for Awujo, who has previously played with Canada at the 2023 World Cup. The USC senior is one of four midfielders named to the 18-player roster.

Awujo owns 17 caps with the Canadian National Team heading into the Olympic tournament. She has started six times and owns one international goal, scoring for Canada against Brazil in the semifinals of the SheBelieves Cup this past April. Awujo also competed with the Canadian U-20 squad at the U-20 World Cup in the summer of 2022 and later that year received her first call up to the senior National Team. She was named Canada Soccer’s 2022 Young Player of the Year.

Awujo is heading into her senior season at USC in 2024, having been named to the All-Pac-12 first team each of the last two years and to the All-Region second team in 2023. In 49 games at USC, she has made 40 starts, scoring four goals and posting seven assists.

The Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament runs from July 25 through August 10. Canada is in Group A along with France, Colombia and New Zealand, and the team will open play on July 25 against New Zealand, before playing France on July 28 and closing group play against Colombia on July 31. Canada are the reigning Olympic Champions coming into the 2024 games after winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
