Collins Named To Canada’s Olympic Roster

Former Cal Defender Set For First Olympic Games

BERKELEY – Sydney Collins, a former member of the California women’s soccer team has been named to Canada’s women’s national team roster for the Paris Olympic Games, the organization announced Monday.

This will be the first Olympic experience for Collins, who earned six caps and four starts for Team Canada in 2023. The team went an undefeated 4-0-2 with the former Golden Bear on the roster, including a 5-0 win over Australia where Collins played 90 minutes and chipped in her first assist on the international circuit.

Canada will be defending its gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics and has reached the podium in each of the last three Olympic Games.

A two-time All-Pac-12 selection, Collins played in 85 matches for the Bears and started in 84 at defender during her five-year career. As an anchor of the defense, she led the team with 1,900 minutes on the pitch during her final year, which helped earn her a spot on the All-Pacific Region second team. In 2022, Collins and the Bears allowed just 17 total goals for 0.81 goal per game average. She was also named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree.

Collins was drafted eighth overall in the 2023 NWSL Draft to the N.C. Courage and helped the club win the NWSL Challenge Cup during her rookie season.
