Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release
This Saturday, June 22nd, the Chattanooga Red Wolves take on South Georgia Tormenta FC for the second time this season. The Red Wolves competed against Tormenta on Saturday, May 18th, resulting in a 4-0 win for Tormenta. The Red Wolves are hoping to secure the win this time on their home turf and split the 2024 series against the Ibises.
The Red Wolves last competed on the road against Charlotte Independence. The Red Wolves started off strong securing two offensive goals, scored by Mayele Malango. As the game entered the late first half, competition leveled out, and Charlotte Independence was able to secure their first goal in the first half stoppage time, scored by Kharlton Belmar. Shortly into the second half, Charlotte secured their second goal to make it an even 2-2. Despite an outstanding performance by TJ Bush, with five saves, Charlotte took the lead in the 83rd minute. Charlotte secured their fourth goal shortly after in the 86th minute, which would be the end result of the match 4-2.
South Georgia Tormenta most recently took on Forward Madison on Saturday, June 15th. The match resulted in a 0-0 draw. Tormenta FC made a change to their formation for the game against Madison and opted for a 5-2-3 formation instead of their usual 4-3-3; with a more defensive approach, Tormenta was able to keep Madison from continuing their winning streak. Both teams had many scoring opportunities but neither were able to convert them into goals and ended up splitting points.
The Red Wolves will head on the road for their next match on Thursday, June 27th against Union Omaha. It will be the Red Wolves second time competing against Omaha. The first match the teams competed against one another ended in a 5-2 win for Omaha in regular season competition; however, with many players returning from injury the Red Wolves will look to pull ahead in the cup standings as they face the Owls in the fifth round of the USL Jägermeister Cup.
MALANGO, BUSH PICK UP LEAGUE AWARD NOMINATIONS
With a brace in ten minutes against Charlotte Independence, including a goal in the first 20 seconds of the match, Mayele Malango has been nominated to USL League One’s Team of the Week for the second time this season. Malango has seen offensive success as of late and scored his fourth and fifth goals across his last five matches against Charlotte.
