Chelsea have reportedly ‘opened talks’ over a move to sign 19-year-old Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.

Todd Boehly‘s side have been chasing the youngster for some time, with reports emerging in May that the west London club had joined the race to sign the centre back.

But it appears the Blues are stepping up their attempts to sign the promising Argentine, with The Athletic reporting Enzo Maresca‘s side have ‘started initial discussions with Boca over a deal to sign Anselmino’.

Manchester United had also been linked with a move to sign the 19-year-old.

Mail Sport wrote in April that Erik ten Hag‘s side had asked about a figure for the 19-year-old as the Red Devils look to bolster their defensive stocks, following an injury crisis that left them bereft of options at centre back at points last season.

The Athletic also states that reports in Argentina claim Chelsea have tabled an offer of around £14.1million plus an additional £3.1m in add-ons. Those figures have not been confirmed by the London club.

Anselmino made his senior debut for Boca in 2023 and has since gone on to make 10 appearances for the Argentine side. This season, he has endured a stop-start campaign having made five appearances for Boca across all competitions this season but has been sidelined since April after tearing his hamstring.

Despite that, the teenager’s performances seem to have garnered him interest from clubs in Europe, with Anselmino scoring the winner of Boca’s Copa Sudamericana group stage clash against Sportivo Trinidense.
