Despite strong ties between the populations of the two nations, Wednesday’s Group B clash will be the first-ever meeting between Croatia and Albania.

Both sides made difficult starts to their Euro 2024 campaigns, with Croatia collapsing in the first half to lose 3-0, though their second-half performance will give them confidence they can improve for the rest of the group stage. Albania, meanwhile, took a shock lead against Italy with Nedim Bajrami scoring after just 23 seconds; the fastest goal in European Championships history. But they couldn’t hold on, with the holders coming back to win 2-1.

Zlatko Dalic’s side are strong favourites to take all three points here but if there is a loser, you cannot help but feel their tournament hopes will be all but over.

Both sides avoided injury and suspension in their opening games and are unlikely to change their starting XIs, although Dalic might consider a change up-front after Andrej Kramaic and Ante Budimir struggled.
