Club make definitive decision on Julian Alvarez

Arsenal won't sign Manchester City ace

It’s fair to say that Man City have an embarrassment of riches in all areas of their squad, not least in attack where Julian Alvarez can only consider himself as a substitute at present.

The Argentinian World Cup winner hasn’t managed to dislodge Erling Haaland from his pedestal up front, and that has led to apparent rumblings that Alvarez might well be willing to move on.

Pep Guardiola’s decisions can’t really be called into question, given that he’s brought the club four of the last five Premier League titles as well as their first-ever Champions League win.

Man City won’t sell Julian Alvarez

For Alvarez, however, some of those successes might seem a little hollow given that he won’t necessarily have played the fullest part.

Indeed, WhoScored note that he’s only played 90 minutes in six games in all competitions during this calendar year, with City having contested 26 fixtures during that time.

It’s no wonder why the forward might be getting itchy feet if he feels that the manager perhaps only trusts him once games are won, or he’ll be played against opponents that are not expected to trouble the Cityzens.

Julian Alvarez win’t be leaving Man City

However, like it or not, he isn’t going anywhere.

According to Football Insider sources, Man City have made the decision that Alvarez won’t be sold, suggesting that, in fact, that he is a valued member of the title-winning squad.

Whether the status quo will end up changing for him during next season is a moot point at this stage.

Guardiola and his backroom staff will have time before the first whistle blows on the 2024/25 campaign to reflect and decide what the best course of action is for a number of their players.

If Alvarez were to suffer the same fate during the first half of the new season, it’s almost certain that his future will be the subject of some speculation again in January.
