SAN DIEGO – San Diego Wave FC announced today that the club has hired Camille Ashton as Sporting Director and General Manager. Ashton, who has over two decades of experience as a player, sports executive and General Manager, will oversee all aspects of Wave FC’s sporting department.
“Alll of us at Wave FC wish Cami and her family a warm welcome to our city and to our club,” said San Diego Wave FC President Jill Ellis. “I’ve known Cami from back in her playing days, and her impressive track record and deep understanding as both a General Manager and former player, combined with her passion and energy make her an exceptional fit with this club.”
In her role as Sporting Director and General Manager, Ashton will lead player acquisition and scouting; manage the coaching staff, technical staff and development programs, as well as oversee the soccer operations budget and team salary cap. She will report directly to Club President Jill Ellis.

Ashton joins the Wave from Kansas City Current, where she held the General Manager role since January 2022. In her first season with the club, Kansas City made an appearance in the 2022 NWSL Championship. During her tenure, in addition to leading other sporting activities, Ashton led the recruitment of key players such as Debinha, Vanessa DiBernardo, Bia Zaneratto and Temwa Chawinga. The Current are unbeaten through 12 games this season and sit in first place in league standings.
Prior to joining Kansas City, Ashton was a Vice President at Blueprint Sports & Entertainment after several years working in a critical Talent Development role at WWE.
Ashton played in the NWSL (2014-17) for Sky Blue FC, Orlando Pride, and Houston Dash. Additionally, Ashton spent several years playing internationally for top tier Swedish, Norwegian, Italian and Australian clubs. She retired from professional soccer at the end of 2018.
