Bayern chief already has one big regret about Vincent Kompany

Former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard has emerged as a candidate for the Burnley job

Bayern Munich’s hiring of Vincent Kompany raised brows across the footballing world.

Despite the surprising nature of the appointment, there appears to be an air of confidence around the Bavarian outfit that the right managerial choice has been made.

Such to an extent that director of sport Max Eberl is regretful the club didn’t begin talks with the Belgian head coach six weeks earlier.

“Now that Max Eberl has talked to Kompany he admitted he couldn’t believe Bayern hadn’t opened talks with the Belgian six weeks ago, as he knows how good he will be at the club. There is some regret that Kompany wasn’t initially higher up on the list,” Christian Falk shared in his exclusive Fact Files column with CaughtOffside.

The former R.S.C. Anderlecht and Burnley manager signed a three-year deal with his new employers after Bayern handed over a £10m compensation fee to the Clarets.

Will Vincent Kompany be a success in Munich?

Credit where credit is due, it’s a bold move from the six-time Champions League winners.

Objectively speaking, Kompany’s resume leaves much to be desired when compared with that of departing boss Thomas Tuchel. Even, arguably, also with that of former Bayern boss (and now Germany head coach) Julian Nagelsmann.

After losing patience quickly with both coaches, the virtue will have to be seriously respected to afford the 38-year-old the time to get comfortable in far more challenging surroundings.

It’s a gamble from FC Hollywood – but at the very least a most spectacular role of the dice befitting of their nickname!
