Jackie Poortinga Joins Utah Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women’s soccer coach Hideki Nakada has added a new face to his staff in the person of former Phoenix Rising FC Director of Goalkeeping Jackie Poortinga, who was announced as Utah Soccer’s newest assistant coach on Thursday.

Poortinga comes to Utah after a busy last several years that included functioning as Phoenix Rising’s Director of Goalkeeping, a position she’s held since 2021. Her responsibilities there included overseeing the development of the organization’s goalkeepers, developing and implementing the team’s goalkeeper training curriculum and identifying talent for the purposes of improving the roster. She also functioned as an Assistant Goalkeeper Coach for the Phoenix Rising FC Men’s USL Championship team.

In addition, Poortinga also served as the goalkeeper coach for the Arizona Soccer Association and a staff coach for Camp Shutout, working with many professional and collegiate coaches and collegiate players in the latter role. She was also the head technical goalkeeper coach for the Tiger Goalkeeping Academy from 2017-20.

Poortinga’s journey through the coaching ranks began after an all-conference collegiate playing career that saw her spend time at Olivet Nazarene University and Arizona Christian University. She also spent time playing professionally for FC Arizona.
