Erik ten Hag reveals summer plans amid sack reports

Erik ten Hag says he is planning a deserved summer holiday after Saturday’s FA Cup final as rumours of his impending exit swirl.

Reports broke on Friday suggesting the Red Devils will part ways with the Dutchman after the weekend’s clash with Manchester City at Wembley Stadium following a difficult second campaign at Old Trafford.

United came third in the Premier League and won the Carabao Cup during Ten Hag’s first season in charge but a more difficult 2023/24 term which saw them limp to eighth place looks increasingly likely to cost the former Ajax boss his job.

However, when asked if he has any upcoming talks planned with club’s INEOS management, Ten Hag replied: “No, we already did [talk] and on Sunday I will go on holiday. I think I deserve it.

“It is not necessary. We will go for next season.

“Of course, we are together. Since January they have been part of this club and they want us to win trophies.

“This club didn’t win many trophies in the last ten years, so now we have the second opportunity in two years and it is a big opportunity to win another trophy.”

United must win on Saturday in order to qualify for the Europa League, having missed out on the continental places with their eighth-placed finish.

The club is already assessing potential manager replacements for Ten Hag, with Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna holding initial talks after leading his current team back into the Premier League. However, United face competition from Chelsea and Brighton for his signature.

Mauricio Pochettino is also keen to remain in England following his departure from Stamford Bridge and the former Tottenham Hotspur manager would be interested in succeeding Ten Hag at Old Trafford.
