Erik ten Hag has demanded Manchester United to sign a defender, midfielder and striker this summer.
As reported by Mail Sport on Friday, the Dutchman is expected to be fired after Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City regardless of the result.
However, Ten Hag is adamant that he remains in the plans of Man United‘s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team since the petrochemicals billionaire took over the running of football operations in February.
He has urged the club to spend in this summer’s transfer window and strengthen in multiple position if they are to secure a top four spot next season.
‘We need to sign an extra striker in the summer. And if we can sign another central midfielder and a replacement for Varane, things will look good again. If the team remains fit we can try and aim for top 4 again,’ Ten Hag said speaking to VI.
United have been hampered by defensive injuries this season, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane spending large chunks of the season on the sidelines.
It has been confirmed that latter will depart as a free agent next month after three years at the club.
United’s midfield has also faced issues this season, with £55m signing mason Mount limited to just 19 appearances across all competitions due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Casemiro has failed replicate the levels he displayed in his debut season at Old Trafford and faced heavy criticism in recent months.
Benfica’s highly-rated midfield talent Joao Neves is said to be a target for United as the Brazilian’s replacement.
Ten hag’s side have also struggled for goals, with Rasmus Hojlund the only senior centre forward at the club.
The Danish international has been inconsistent but scored 16 goals in all competitions,
