Man City vs Man Utd: Preview, lineups and predictions

de Moraes Ederson

For the second season in a row, it will be a northern affair in the FA Cup final when Manchester City face local rivals Manchester United in the showpiece event at Wembley on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side ran out 2-1 victors in last season’s final thanks to an Ilkay Gundogan brace and some iffy goalkeeping from David de Gea.

The world champions will head into Saturday’s final full of confidence after claiming a record fourth successive Premier League title last weekend, with the Cityzens aiming to do a domestic double despite being unable to repeat their treble heroics of last season.

Meanwhile, Man Utd are in comparatively low spirits after an incredibly underwhelming campaign. They missed out on European football after finishing a lowly eighth in the Premier League but know victory this weekend will ensure they play in next season’s Europa League. Whether Erik ten Hag will be at Old Trafford next term regardless of Saturday’s result remains to be seen.

Here is 90min’s preview of the FA Cup final between Man City and Man Utd.

Man City have just one injury concern heading to the capital and that is goalkeeper Ederson. The Brazilian fractured his eye socket during the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur and is still unavailable, although Stefan Ortega may well have started the final anyway given he has been used in the FA Cup this term.

While Guardiola is always capable of springing a surprise with his team selection, his first-choice starting lineup seems to more or less choose itself at present. The likes of Josko Gvardiol, Rodri, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland are guaranteed to start.

Man City predicted lineup vs Man Utd (4-2-3-1): Ortega; Walker, Dias, Akanji,…
