LA Galaxy are all set to play host to Western Conference foes Houston Dynamo this weekend at Dignity Health Sports Park.
It’s been a rough month or so for the five-time MLS Cup winners after their excellent start to the 2024 MLS season. The Galaxy will hope to end their five-match winless run that includes four draws and one defeat against a tricky Houston side that remains in the postseason conversation after reaching the Western Conference final in 2023.
LA boss Greg Vanney will more than likely pickup a similar side from the team’s goalless draw last week at Charlotte FC. With Joseph Paintsil out of action due to a hamstring injury sustained vs Minnesota United, Diego Fagundez could be in line for more minutes this weekend.
Here’s how the Galaxy could lineup vs Houston.
GK: John McCarthy – The veteran goalkeeper gets his 14th start of the season in between the sticks.
RB: Miki Yamane – He’ll hope to keep up his recent improved form to help the Galaxy get back in the win column.
CB: Maya Yoshida – Yoshida’s experience will be tested against the likes of Amine Bassi and Adalberto ‘Coco’ Carrasquilla in defense.
CB: Jalen Neal – The 20-year-old defender is coming off his best performance for the Galaxy this season in the draw vs Charlotte.
LB: Julian Aude – Despite the average showing last weekend, Aude keeps his place in Vanney’s XI to round out the backline.
CM: Marco Delgado – Delgado starts in the middle of the park as he’s set to make his 80th appearance for the Gs.
CM: Gaston Brugman – He returns to the lineup after coming off the bench to see out the 0-0 draw vs Charlotte.
CM: Riqui Puig – LA’s creative spark from the midfield will look to cause plenty of problems against Herrera and the Dynamo midfield.
RW: Gabriel Pec – One of the Galaxy’s most important players has been in top form as of late two goal involvements in his last three matches.
ST: Dejan Joveljic – He couldn’t find the back of the net against Charlotte but will be determined to get on the scoresheet in front of the Galaxy’s supporters.
LW: Diego Fagundez – With Paintsil out injured, Fagundez gets the nod at left-wing for the seventh time in 2024.
