Celtic vs Rangers: Preview, predictions and lineups

Stephen Welsh

Celtic are looking to pour more misery on Old Firm rivals Rangers this Saturday when the two sides clash in the final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park.

The two Glasgow clubs have been fighting tooth and nail for the Scottish Premiership title throughout the season but it was Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic who ran out as champions in the end. Slip-ups at the hands of Ross County and Dundee in mid-April saw Rangers hand the trophy to their fierce rivals, meaning the Bhoys have now won 12 of the last 13 first division titles.

But the Gers can get some sweet revenge this Saturday at Hampden and will secure a domestic cup double with victory over Celtic. Philippe Clement’s side won the Scottish League Cup against Aberdeen earlier this season, but have worryingly failed to win any of the four Old Firm derbies this season.

Here is 90min’s guide to the Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Rangers.

Celtic have an almost entirely clean bill of health heading into Saturday’s Scottish Cup final, with Stephen Welsh the only doubt. The defender was injured against St Mirren on the final day but should be fit to make the bench at Hampden.

Joe Hart will play his final game for the Hoops this weekend after announcing his retirement at the end of the season, while the explosive Kyogo Furuhashi will be aiming to extend his fantastic goalscoring record against Rangers at the other end of the pitch.

Celtic predicted lineup vs Rangers (4-3-3): Hart; Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor; O’Riley, McGregor, Hatate; Forrest, Furuhashi, Maeda.

Connor Goldson

While Celtic boast a full-strength squad, Rangers are struggling with a mountain of injury concerns heading into the final. Connor Goldson, Danilo, Oscar Cortes, Tom Lawrence, Borna Barisic, Leon Balogun and John Souttar are all absent or injury doubts.
