Timbers Fall Short to LAFC with 3-2 Road Result

PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing their third match in a seven-day span, the Portland Timbers fell short on the road against Minnesota United FC 2-1 at Allianz Field on Saturday night. Despite Timbers forward Jonathan Rodríguez opening the scoring in the 17th minute, Minnesota found a way to retaliate by scoring two second-half goals to take home three points.


Tonight’s Notables

The Timbers have scored 26 goals through 13 matches, tied for third-most by any team this season so far. Portland has scored in each of its last three matches, tallying six goals in that run. In 10 matches as a Timber, Jonathan Rodríguez tallied his fifth goal tonight and his seventh goal contribution in the 2024 campaign. It marked his fourth goal contribution through Portland’s last three matches (3G, 1A). David Ayala, recording his 12th appearance this season, notched his first assist since joining Portland. Three different players have registered five or more goals for Portland this season (Evander, Mora, Rodríguez), the most players to reach that mark on one team in the league.

Goal-Scoring Plays

POR – Jonathan Rodríguez (David Ayala), 17th minute: David Ayala dribbled towards the box and slid a ball through Minnesota’s defensive line to find Jonathan Rodriguez. Rodriguez made the run and slotted the goal into the lower-right corner of the goal.

MIN – Robin Lod (Joseph Rosales), 65th minute: Standing on the left side of the 18-yard box, Rosales crossed the ball on his first touch to connect with Robin Lod, who in the six-yard box finished the play with a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

MIN – Jeong Sang-Bin (DJ Taylor), 82nd minute: DJ Taylor ran into the right side of the 18-yard box and cut the ball back near the penalty spot area. On his first touch, Jeong Sang-Bin fired a right-footed shot into the lower-right corner of the goal.
