Chelsea want Manuel Ugarte as Conor Gallagher replacement

Club's position on Xavi is clear

Chelsea are keen on signing the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte at the end of the season.

According to a report from TBR Football, Chelsea are keeping tabs on his situation and they would look to make a move for him in the summer if Conor Gallagher leaves the club.

The 24-year-old English midfielder has been linked with an exit and it will be interesting to see if the Blues decide to sell him in the coming weeks. He will be entering the final 12 months of his contract this summer and the two parties have not been able to secure an extension yet.

Chelsea will be under pressure to sell him this summer. They will not want to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer next year.

Manuel Ugarte would improve Chelsea

They will have to replace him adequately and Ugarte could prove to be a quality addition. The Uruguay international is a defensive midfielder who will help shield the defensive unit and break up opposition attacks in the middle of the park.

Chelsea have missed someone of his quality since the departure of N’Golo Kante. Although they spent a substantial amount of money on Moises Caicedo at the start of the season, the former Brighton midfielder has not been able to live up to the expectations.

The arrival of Ugarte will add more quality and depth to the midfield. The South American midfielder was signed at the start of the season for a fee of around £51 million. But the French outfit are looking to rebuild their squad and they would be open to selling him in the summer.

The 23-year-old could be tempted to move to the Premier League and the opportunity to play for Chelsea could be an exciting option for him.
