FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The 2023-24 MLS NEXT season continued last weekend as New England’s U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s were in Boyds, Maryland competing in the 2024 MLS NEXT Flex competition, while the U-14s and U-13s traveled to take on New York City FC.


The two-time MLS NEXT Cup Champion U-19s earned the opportunity to defend their title, recording three straight wins to top their group at MLS NEXT Flex last weekend. The U-19s opened action with a 3-1 win vs. RSL Arizona with goals from Mason Sullivan (2005 – Boston, Mass.), Olger Escobar (2006 – Malden, Mass.), and Eric Martinez (2006 – Perris, Calif.). New England closed out MLS NEXT Flex with two 4-0 wins against the Diablo Valley Wolves and the Houston Rangers. Max Weinstein (2004 – Montpelier, V.T.) started all three matches in net with Ryan Carney (2006 – Dunstable, Mass.) seeing 45 minutes of action in the U-19’s second match of the tournament.

The U-17s went 2-1-0 at Maryland Soccerplex, defeating the Seattle Sounders, 3-1, and Southern Soccer Academy, 1-0. The U-17s fell to St. Louis CITY on Tuesday, 5-3. The U-15s earned a 1-0-2 record at MLS NEXT Flex, battling Inter Miami and Strikers FC to draws, falling to Miami in the shootout and winning the shootout against Strikers FC. The U-15s closed out Flex action with a 2-1 win against the Portland Timbers.

The U-14s and U-13s traveled to face New York City FC last weekend. Shayne Dos Santos (2011 – Arlington, Mass.) was the lone goal scorer for New England in the U-14s 5-1 loss. The U-13s fell in their match against New York, 1-0.

All five Academy teams are back in action this weekend as the U-19s, U-14s, and U-13s take on Oakwood SC on Saturday while the U-17s and U-15s travel to face the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC. Click here to learn more about the New England Revolution Academy.
