Charlotte FC Defender Andrew Privett Named to MLS Team of the Matchday

CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte FC defender Andrew Privett earned a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday after his defensive leadership helped earn Charlotte FC a defensive shutout and victory over Nashville SC.

The match was Charlotte FC’s second of four home matches in May, with 36,319 fans in attendance at Bank of America Stadium.

Privett calmly led the back line through the full 90 minutes of a tight 1-0 victory. Working alongside Adilson Malanda, Nathan Byrne, and Jere Uronen, the four limited Nashville to just six shots. Privett was particularly impressive, tallying eight recoveries, five ground duels won, three tackles won, three aerial duels won, two blocks, one clearance and one interception.

Patrick Agyemang gave Charlotte FC the lead with a left-footed strike in the 52nd minute. Privett helped secure a close victory over the rest of the match, notably keeping Nashville Designated Players Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge in check throughout the 90 minutes.

The American center back was acquired 69th overall in the third round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. Originally a midfielder at Penn State, Privett converted to center back late in the 2023 season and, after subbing on during the first half against CF Montreal on July 15, started all 16 matches down the stretch to help qualify CLTFC for the playoffs.

In 2024, Privett has started and played the full 90 minutes in all 12 matches so far this season.

Next up, The Crown has three matches over the next two weeks, starting with a quick turnaround to Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday, May 15th at 8:30 p.m. ET. Then, the team has two home matches on the remaining two Saturdays of May against the LA Galaxy on May 18 and the Philadelphia Union on May 25.
