North Carolina Courage News Release
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Carolina Courage fell to the Kansas City Current, 1-0, in a hard-fought match on Sunday, May 12, at CPKC Stadium.
Former Courage midfielder Debinha scored the game’s only goal, pouncing on a rebound in the 52′.
The Current outshot the Courage 21-7, but Casey Murphy stood tall in the Courage net and made a season-high seven saves to keep the Current attack at bay for much of the match.
Ashley Sanchez had the best chance of the night for the Courage in the 11′, with Denise O’Sullivan winning the ball in midfield and driving forward to find Sanchez in the box. Sanchez struck for the near post, but AD Franch turned the shot wide for a corner kick.
The Courage pushed for a late equalizer and created chances, but Franch and the KC defense held tight to remain unbeaten on the season.
Match Notes:
Casey Murphy made a season-high seven saves in the match and has now made 299 career saves in the NWSL regular season. Seven saves is tied for the third-most saves Murphy has had in a single game in an NC Courage jersey.
Ashley Sanchez led the Courage with three shots, two of which found the target.
