Erik ten Hag reveals if he regrets taking Man Utd job

Erik ten Hag says he has no regrets taking the Manchester United manager job as his second season at Old Trafford draws to a close.

The Red Devils sit eighth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s clash with title hopefuls Arsenal, 13 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa after a campaign filled with mass injuries and underwhelming performances.

Speculation is swirling over the Dutch boss’ future at United – former Red Devils coach Rene Meulensteen even called for Ten Hag to leave his role – but the 54-year-old claimed he does not rue taking over as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent replacement.

He said in his pre-match press conference: “I don’t regret being here for one second.

“This is a massive club. You don’t know the challenges you have to face until you are in it. But I wanted this challenge and have not had one second when I regret that decision. I am really happy to be here.

“In the first year I would say it was a good formation. We played to our levels, maybe we over-performed.

“In this one we haven’t and I know why, but we are still in an FA Cup final and that is a great achievement.”

While United are in danger of finishing the season with their lowest Premier League points tally ever – currently sat four points behind 2021/22’s haul of 58 – they remain in the hunt for a second piece of silverware under Ten Hag having reached the FA Cup final.

That fixture will be played at Wembley Stadium on 25 May and see Ten Hag’s side meet Manchester City in a repeat of last season’s showpiece finale in England’s famous cup competition. They were unsuccessful against their local rivals, losing 2-1 as two goals from Ilkay Gundogan cancelled out Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.
