Memphis 901 FC News Release

Seaside, CALIF. – A dramatic final 20 minutes led to a 2-2 draw with Monterey Bay FC for Memphis 901 FC on Saturday night at Cardinale Stadium.

901 FC extended their unbeaten streak to three matches with clutch goals from Marlon and Bruno Lapa in the final moments of the match on the road.

Memphis controlled the first half with 60% of the possession while pouring in seven shots and forcing two saves. Monterey would come back with two big chances of their own, however. 901 FC goalkeeper Tyler Deric denied a penalty shot in the 22nd minute, but the host would convert their chance in the 35th minute to take the lead into the half.

Continued pressure in the second half saw the Beale Street Boys break through as Lapa finished a corner kick delivery from Oscar Jimenez. Lapa scored his third goal of the season after a brace against Birmingham Legion FC two weeks ago.

Marlon showed he couldn’t be contained in the 88th minute after a mostly quiet match. Lucas Turci found the reigning USL Championship Player of the Week with a long pass before a one-touch finish to take the lead. Marlon has tallied three goals and three assists total in the last three weeks of USL action.

Monterey would answer just two minutes later, however, as Memphis came away with the draw moving to 3-5-1 on the season.

Memphis’ two-match road swing continues as the club travels to face El Paso Locomotive on Friday, May 17 at 8 p.m. CT.
