Over the years, more than 800 professionally signed players and thousands more staff, supporters, partners, and stakeholders have been a part of Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

This coming Saturday, May 4, the ‘Caps will be celebrating that history at BC Place. A crowd of over 30,000 is expected for the 50th Anniversary Celebration Match presented by BMO, nearly 50 years to the day of the club’s first ever match on May 5, 1974. Kickoff against Austin FC is at 7:30 p.m. PT – Watch: MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, TSN, Listen: AM 730.

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7:15 p.m. PT for a special pre-match ceremony featuring more than 110 alumni from the club’s history.

“As we approach this historic milestone, we are looking forward to recognizing the amazing achievements of our alumni and celebrating with over 30,000 of our fans on Saturday night at BC Place,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer.

Prior to Saturday’s match, fans are invited to enjoy an all-ages 50th Anniversary Street Party starting at 3 p.m. PT at the corner of Robson & Beatty, featuring $5 drinks, food trucks, and live music from DJ Juice.

This week, the ‘Caps will be recognized by both the City of Vancouver and the Province of British Columbia. On Wednesday morning, the City of Vancouver will proclaim May 4 as Whitecaps FC 50th Anniversary Day. On Thursday afternoon, Whitecaps FC will be recognized by the Province of British Columbia at 1 p.m. PT, followed by a youth soccer clinic on the parliament lawn.

On the pitch, the ‘Caps have marked the club’s 50th Anniversary by tying their best-ever start to an MLS season and sit near the top of the Western Conference. Saturday’s match will see the upper bowl open at BC Place for the second time this season, following a crowd of 29,624 at the home opener.
