Luis Enrique has revealed that he still hopes that Kylian Mbappe will change his mind and remain at Paris Saint-Germain this summer instead of leaving for Real Madrid.
The star forward has been heavily linked with a move to The Bernabeu after telling PSG in February that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
Mbappe is set to reveal his next club before Euro 2024, with Real Madrid widely expected to be his destination.
However, Enrique stressed that nothing is set in stone and that it is still possible that Mbappe could stay at PSG.
Enrique told Prime Video: ‘I’m still hoping that Kylian will change his mind. He hasn’t said anything yet. He can still change his mind.
Paris Saint-Germain boss Kylian Mbappe has expressed hope that Kylian Mbappe could stay
Enrique believes Mbappe could stay despite being strongly linked with Real Madrid
‘Let’s imagine that we win four titles this season and Kylian makes his choice at the last moment and decides that his place is in Paris. Why not?’
During his time at PSG Mbappe has scored 250 goals in 297 appearances across all competitions.
Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is team-mates with Mbappe for France, recently appeared to confirm that the striker will join him at the Spanish club.
Speaking to Telefoot, Tchouameni said: ‘The Spanish are aware of the player that Kylian is, although when they see him every day they will realise the player’s greatness’.
Mbappe responded to the comment by joking that fans in Spain could see him play frequently as PSG faced Real Sociedad in the last-16 of the Champions League and will take on Barcelona in the quarter-finals, with Atletico Madrid potentially awaiting in the semi-finals.
Mbappe said: ‘Well, I played Real Sociedad [in the last 16], we play Barcelona in quarter finals and if we go through, maybe Atletico in semis!.
‘So yes, Spaniards will see me a bit more.’
Real have reportedly reached an agreement with Mbappe to sign him…
