Match Action

It was a windy start to the match in South Carolina. Greenville began with a strong attack, putting pressure on Forward’s backline early. FMFC goalkeeper, Bernd Schipmann came up with a few big saves early in the match to keep the game scoreless. One of Forward’s only opportunities on net was off of a free kick, and defender Timmy Mehl had beaten his defender in the box but his shot was right at the Greenville goalkeeper.

Greenville continued to outpossess the ‘Mingos, and were able to put together a few dangerous opportunities, but Schipmann continued to keep his team in the match. In the 36th minute, it seemed as though Forward had found their breakthrough. Forward Derek Gebhard had mad a hard run on the right side, and a wide-open Christian Chaney found space in the box. With a cross back from Gebhard, Chaney wound up and hit his shot wide, keeping the match tied.

Momentum stayed with Greenville, and in the 45th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to the home team off of a Forward Madison foul in the box. Greenville’s Leonardo Castro stepped up to take the team but Schipmann, still hot, dove to his right to make the save, keeping the game 0-0 at the half.

The second half started slow, with both sides having very few opportunities on net. Forward Madison subbed on game-changing players like Wolfgang Prentice and Nazeem Bartman, but Greenville stayed strong defensively. After several minutes of stoppage time, the game ended 0-0, with both teams taking home a point.
