PORTLAND, Ore. – A ten-man Timbers2 side was knocked out of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the first round with a 2-1 loss to El Farolito SC at Providence Park on Tuesday night. T2 took the lead in the first half with a goal from Keesean Ferdinand, but El Farolito came back to earn a result and advance in the tournament with two second-half goals.
Goal-Scoring Plays
POR – Keesean Ferdinand, 30th minute: Harvey Neville curled a T2 free kick into the box. El Farolito’s goalkeeper came out and attempted to punch it but deflected it down and Keesean Ferdinand pounced on the loose ball and tucked it into the back of the net.
FAR – Jhoann Yabur (Judas Higuera), 52nd minute: From the right side of the field near the endline, Judas Higuera served a cross into the box. Jhoann Yabur made a dashing run to the top of the six-yard box and fired a header into the back of the net.
FAR – Dembor Benson (Jonatan Valdivia), 68th minute: Dembor Benson chipped a cross into the box and Jonatan Valdivia won it out of the air with his head to score the go-ahead goal.
