Fulham agree deal to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea

Armando Broja

Fulham are believed to have agreed a £4m fee to sign Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The striker has largely struggled for game time and form since returning to the club in 2022 following an impressive loan at Southampton. Having scored nine goals for the Saints during his season at St. Mary’s, Broja has managed just three in all competitions with Chelsea in the ensuing two campaigns.

Broja’s lack of form, and his position behind both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku in the pecking order, led to the Blues initially being keen to sell the 22-year-old outright during the January transfer window.

While there was interest from both Fulham and Wolves in his services, the £50m price tag set by Chelsea made any permanent move not financially viable.

David Ornstein reported earlier on deadline day that, due to unwillingness to match his price tag, the Blues had now been prepared to listen to loan offers for the striker’s services.

As reported by Sky Sports, a loan deal has now been struck by Fulham for Broja, with the Cottagers agreeing to fork out £4m in order to sign the striker for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

The injury suffered by starting striker Raul Jimenez has seemingly forced Fulham’s hand late in the transfer window. Jimenez hobbled off in the 46th minute of thei rather disappointing 0-0 draw with Everton at Craven Cottage on Tuesday, and the Mexico star is now set to be out for several weeks.

According to reports, the £4m fee that the Cottagers are set to pay is dependent on appearances and goals in the second half of the season.
