Everton face a crucial decision over Arnaut Danjuma’s immediate future with the player and his parent club Villarreal understood to be growing frustrated at his lack of game time.
Lyon, who are also exploring an audacious move to bring Karim Benzema back to France from Saudi Arabia side Al Ittihad, have made it clear they would like to take Danjuma for the rest of the season but there is no break clause in Villarreal’s loan arrangement with Everton.
Manager Sean Dyche has underlined that despite Lyon’s interest, the Holland international is currently contracted to the Goodison club and has played a key role in recent games.
Indeed, Danjuma started the last two matches, has figured in 18 in total, and scored twice.
However, it is the lack of those starts and the position of a midfielder, rather than his preferred left wing, that is causing issues with Villarreal, who are concerned the value of their asset is diminishing.

The 26-year-old still has two years left on contract and all parties were hoping a return to the Premier League would give Danjuma the perfect platform to rediscover the form he showed in his first year in Spain and previously with Bournemouth.
Lyon want him to replace Diego Moreira, who has returned to Chelsea from his respective loan but the issue for Everton is whether they let him go and guarantee they find a strong enough replacement in the final throes of the window, particularly with financial restrictions upon them.
