Everton’s position is strengthened by the fact that the player’s contract does not expire until 2027, meaning they are in no pressure to sell their prized asset.

Branthwaite joined Everton from Carlisle in 2020 and was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven last season.

Dyche first spoke to him during his time at PSV and has been impressed with his character.

He said in a press conference: ‘I think you can never define someone’s character, but even last season speaking to him on the phone a couple of times when I first got here, I could tell he was very level, he was enjoying the experience [at PSV], he was taking on the challenge.
