Wyatt Meyer (alongside teammate Connor Lambe) earns the Academic All-America honor for the first time after twice being named to the Academic All-District Team.

California men’s soccer captain Wyatt Meyer was named to the Academic All-America First Team on Tuesday, the College Sports Communicators announced, becoming the program’s third Golden Bear to collect the prestigious honor. A two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, Meyer – who is a junior academically and a senior athletically – garnered Academic All-America status after posting a 3.82 grade-point average as an English major who is also pursuing a minor in history.

Previous Bears to garner Academic All-America honors were Aravind Sivakumar in 2017 and Andrew Wiedeman in 2009.

“Wyatt is a player who epitomizes the words student-athlete,” Cal head coach Leonard Griffin said. “It’s been great seeing him recognized for his on-field performance, but that only comes because the way he does anything is the way he does everything. Meyer is one of 126 student-athletes to claim CSC Academic All-America status across all divisions of collegiate men’s soccer.

The veteran also posted two assists and scored his first goal since 2021 in the season finale against Stanford on Nov. 11 on The Farm.

Along with several teammates, Meyer is eligible to be chosen in Tuesday’s MLS SuperDraft – scheduled for noon PT – and join the ranks of Cal alumni playing professionally, including Drake Callender (Inter Miami CF), Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders FC), Steven Birnbaum (D.C.
