Juventus hold talks with Man City over Kalvin Phillips

Juventus have spoken with Manchester City about Kalvin Phillips as they look at add a midfielder this January, but they are exploring a number of options at this stage, sources have told 90min.

City have made it clear to Phillips he can leave in January be it on a permanent transfer or, more likely, a loan.

90min revealed earlier this year Phillips was giving himself until Christmas to try and convince Pep Guardiola that he had a part to play for City going forward. However, that has not come to pass and the former Leeds man is now ready to move on.

Juventus have long been keen on the England international. They are looking to bring in a midfielder in January, and they have spoken with City about details of a deal for Phillips.

The Serie A side would prefer to take Phillips on an initial loan and City are open to this. City would like a mandatory purchase clause in the deal, but are open to an option which would have triggers to make it permanent instead.

However, it would be a very big ask for Juve to commit to such a deal considering City value him at and £40m and Phillips is on a relatively large wage.

Juve could have limited funds in January like most clubs, although the possible suspension of Paul Pogba could help any Financial Fair Play concerns if they are not liable for his huge wages going forward.

Furthermore, Juve are looking at other targets and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has been doing his homework on a plethora of options.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains someone Juve are huge fans of but a deal to pry him away from Tottenham Hotspur looks difficult, while Teun Koopmeiners, Rodrigo De Paul, Manu Kone, Georgiy Sudakov and Khephren Thuram are some of the other players that Giuntoli has looked at.
