Abiodun, Schupansky Land on TopDrawerSoccer Best XI Team


PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team places two athletes on the TopDrawerSoccer Post Season Best XI Team, announced Tuesday afternoon. Forward Sarah Schupansky secured a spot on the Best XI Second Team where midfielder Deborah Abiodun earned a place on the Freshman Best XI Second Team.

Forward Schupansky was in the starting XI in 22 out of all 24 games played this season. The junior total 1633 minutes where she registered a season program record of 36 points with her 11 goals and 14 assists. The Pittsburgh, PA native was able to place 31 out of 65 shots this season – securing three game winning goals. Schupanksy also found herself on the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team and the All-ACC First Team – becoming the first Panther to receive this honor.

Freshman Abiodun started in 19 games out of 24 played this season – totaling 1424 minutes. The midfielder posted a total of 15 points on the season with her six goals and three assists. Abiodun placed her name on the All-ACC Freshman and Third Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Second Team for her efforts this year. 

These two stellar athletes helped the Panthers achieve their most successful season yet. Pitt set program records for most wins overall (17), ACC wins (6), home wins (9), points (194), goals (64) and assists (66). The Panthers posted fived top 25 wins including defeating three teams in the top ten. Pitt also advanced to the ACC Championship Semifinal and NCAA Elite Eight fields for the first time in program history.
