Florida State Advances to National Championship

CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – With goals from Kaitlyn Zipay and Jordynn Dudley, Florida State defeated Clemson 2-0 in a matchup of top seeds Friday evening at WakeMed Soccer Park, as the Seminoles advanced to their third National Championship match in the last four seasons and seventh all-time. The ACC extends its streak to six straight national title match appearances.

FSU improves to 21-0-1 on the season, the most victories by an ACC team since the Noles finished with 22 at the conclusion of the 2021 campaign. Florida State becomes the first team since 2015 to reach the championship final without conceding a goal throughout the NCAA Tournament.

With her fourth clean sheet of the tournament, Cristina Roque made five saves on the evening, including four stops in the first half. The Winter Garden, Florida, native is now tied for the most career shutouts among Division I goalkeepers with 40.

Zipay broke the scoreless deadlock with a 38th-minute strike, becoming the 10th different Seminole to score a goal in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Dudley, who was named the ACC Freshman of the Year at the end of the regular season, added a second-half insurance goal in the 53rd minute when she made a long run into the Tiger box and found the back of the net with a right-footed shot.

Florida State will play for its fourth national championship on Monday at 6 p.m. against future ACC member Stanford on ESPNU. The Seminoles and Cardinal (20-0-4) are the only two unbeaten teams in Division I.
