Women’s Soccer Collects Trio of United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Awards


EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three Michigan State women’s soccer players collected All-North Region nods from the United Soccer Coaches, as announced by the organization Tuesday. 

Graduate defender Raegan Cox and senior midfielder Justina Gaynor earned All-North First Team honors, each collecting their second-straight All-Region accolades after being named to the All-North Second Team last season. Graduate defender Celia Gaynor landed a spot on the All-North Third Team for the first United Soccer Coaches regional award of her career. 

MSU’s three selections are tied for the second-most in program history following its five selections in 2022. The Spartans have previously collected three selections on three other occasions – 2003, 2009 and 2010. The Green & White have landed spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region teams in each season since head coach Jeff Hosler‘s arrival in 2021. 

Cox, a native of Muskegon, Michigan, ended her four-year career in the Green & White as one of the most decorated defenders in program history. A two-time All-Big Ten selection, Cox started in all 21 games played for the Spartans in 2023 and tallied five points from a pair of goals and an assist. In 1,644 minutes for MSU this season, she helped the Spartans produce eight shutouts, including a historic 1-0 victory over Harvard in the NCAA Second Round to advance to MSU’s first-ever Sweet 16. 

The 2023 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, Justina Gaynor totaled a team-high 24 points from six goals and 12 assists this season. She started in every game for the Spartans in 2023 and earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors for the second-straight season in addition to collecting the program’s first Midfielder of the Year award. The Shelby Township, Michigan native scored at least a point in all but seven of MSU’s contests this season, while her 12 assists rank 10th in the NCAA in 2023 and second all-time in single-season assists in the MSU record books. She scored the game-winner in MSU’s NCAA Second Round victory over Harvard.
