Soccer Tabs Four on the CSC Academic All-District Team


COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri soccer team saw four Tigers tabbed for the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, Nov. 21, senior Jenna Bartels, juniors Milena Fischer and Leah Selm and sophomore Kylee Simmons. Three earn the distinction for the first time, while Fischer is the only one to garner the honor for the second time in her career. 

The 2022 Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. 

Bartels played in 17 games for Mizzou and got the start in 14. The senior finished the season with three goals and two assists for eight total points. The forward earned multiple helpers for the second-consecutive season, while her goal and points totals were single-season career highs. The Frisco, Texas native is studying journalism at MU.

Earning her second-consecutive CSC all-district distinction, Fischer played and started in all 17 games for Missouri during the 2023 season. The midfielder totaled two assists on the season, and her 10 career assists lead the team. The Saarbrucken, Germany native is working toward a degree in architectural studies. 

First-year captain Selm totaled 17 starts with 1,202 minutes played in the midfield during the 2023 season. The Manchester, Missouri native scored one goal and had two assists on the year. In a game at Auburn on Sept. 21, the captain tabbed a goal and assist for a three-point effort. The midfielder is currently studying mechanical engineering at Mizzou. 

Rounding out the Mizzou honorees, Simmons had a breakout sophomore season, totaling a Southeastern Conference-leading 24 points and was named First Team All-SEC. The league leader in goals (11) and goals per game (.65) totaled a five-point performance at Florida on Sept. 15, scoring twice and adding an assist. The forward scored her 11th goal of the season in a penalty kick against Tennessee, becoming the first Tiger to net 11 goals since Julissa Cisernos in 2019. Simmons is working toward a Bachelor’s in health science at Missouri.
