November 16, 2023 – Canadian Premier League (CPL) – Vancouver FC News Release
Langley, BC – Vancouver Football Club announced today that it has entered into discussions with eight players from the club’s 2023 roster who will be out of contract at the end of the year.
Forwards Mikaël Cantave and Ameer Kinani, midfielders Renan Garcia, Ivan Mejia, and Nima Moazeni Zadeh and defender Min-jae Kwak are under contract with Vancouver until Dec. 31, 2023, and will become free agents if new deals are not struck before the end of the calendar year.
Vancouver is also exploring future opportunities for developmental player Lennon Thompson. Thompson, 18, will not be eligible for a developmental contract in 2024 as he will no longer be an Under-18 player.
Midfielder Vasco Fry has completed his loan from Vancouver Whitecaps FC II and will return to his home club at the conclusion of the calendar year. VFC has expressed interest in pursuing discussions with Whitecaps FC II for further opportunities with Fry.
“We are actively engaged in discussions with targeted players,” said Afshin Ghotbi, Head Coach, Vancouver FC. “We’re striving to secure a talented, deep, and well-balanced selection for the 2024 season.”
Last week, Vancouver announced the club had declined the 2024 contract options for forwards Shaan Hundal and Nathaniel St. Louis, midfielder Nicky Gyimah and goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski.
Further VFC roster updates will be provided in the coming weeks.
