USC Women's Soccer Falls in NCAA Second Round at BYU


PROVO, Utah – The USC women’s soccer team saw its postseason run come to an end on Thursday night in Utah, as the Trojans fell 1-0 at No. 1-seeded BYU.
 
In a game where USC held the advantage in shots, 16-15, and BYU just a slight edge in possession, 51-49%, a second-half goal by the Cougars was the difference.
 
After a scoreless first half in which each team took eight shots, Bella Folino broke through with a goal in the 58th minute for BYU.
 
The Trojans had chances down the stretch, including several in the last minute, with a ball going off the crossbar in the waning seconds, but USC could not break through.
 
USC finishes its season 11-5-3, sitting at No. 22 in the latest coaches poll. The Trojans finished third in the Pac-12 and made their 10th consecutive postseason appearance this year.
 
GOAL
58′ – BYU: Bella Folino (assisted by Brecken Mozingo, Kendell Petersen) – Petersen sent a ball in from out wide to Mozingo in the right side of the area, and Mozingo passed to Folino in front of goal for the score.
