USC Women's Soccer Draws Eight-Seed in NCAA Tournament, Will Host Grand Canyon

Women’s Soccer | November 06, 2023

LOS ANGELES – The USC women’s soccer team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th year in a row with the release of the full 2023 postseason bracket today, drawing an eight-seed in the 64-team field.

The Trojans (10-4-3) will host Grand Canyon (14-4-4) on Friday at McAlister Field at 2 p.m. for their first-round game. Broadcast and ticket information for the postseason contest will be released soon.

ROAD TO THE POSTSEASON

The Trojans finished the regular season third in the Pac-12 standings with a 6-2-3 conference mark, earning an at-large bid to this year’s tournament. The Trojans beat two ranked opponents this season (No. 4 Duke, No. 23 Washington State) and played to a scoreless draw against No. 4 Stanford near the end of the season.

THE OPPONENT

Grand Canyon enters the tournament after securing an automatic bid by winning the WAC Tournament last week. It was the Lopes’ second conference tournament title in the last three years and came after Grand Canyon entered the tournament as a No. 4 seed with a 5-1-3 conference record.

USC and Grand Canyon have played once before, with the teams meeting in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The Trojans hosted that postseason matchup as well, winning the contest 6-0.

USC TOURNAMENT HISTORY

USC is making its 22nd NCAA Postseason appearance this year and 10th straight dating back to 2014. USC has won two National Championships in its history, becoming the first Pac-12 program to win a title in 2007 and then the first program from the conference to win a second title in 2016.

The Trojans have only missed the postseason nine times in the program’s 31-year history and have advanced past at least the first round 13 times. USC has been a national seed in the NCAA field each of the last nine years.
