DURHAM – The Duke women’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to top-ranked Florida State on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Devils celebrated senior day at Koskinen Stadium.
Blue Devil senior goalkeeper Leah Freeman registered a season-high eight saves on the afternoon. Duke fell to 6-6-3, 2-4-3 in the ACC, while Florida State improved to 13-0-1, 8-0-1.
How It Happened
• Duke created opportunities in the first half, which were started by sophomore Kat Rader. She took a long pass down the left side and drove into the box. She was one-v-one with a FSU defender, but her shot went high over the cross bar.
• In the 25th minute, sophomore Devin Lynch stole a FSU pass in the box and drove in towards the 9-yard marker. She sent a perfect cross toward the far post where senior Grace Watkins was wide open, but couldn’t quite get a good foot on the attempt.
• Rader then had a free kick from 21 yards in the 26th minute that went high.
• After peppering the Duke goal with seven shots through the first 23 minutes, the Seminoles were able to get on the board in the 30th minute. Jordynn Dudley stole the ball from a Duke defender and found an open Kaitlyn Zipay for the FSU goal to go ahead, 1-0.
• In the 35th minute, Leah Pais found herself open in front of the goal, but Blue Devil senior goalkeeper Leah Freeman made a diving stop on a shot.
• With just under four minutes remaining in the first half, senior Katie Groff crossed a perfect ball in front of the goal where the Seminoles missed clearing…
