Adams named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech goalkeeper Timi Adams was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, per a league release. 

Adams, a junior, made a career-high four saves in only his third career start, as Tech went on the road to upset No. 5 Louisville, 2-1, on Friday night. A pair of late goals in each half by Andy Sullins and Oliver Roche powered the Hokies on the scoresheet, while Adams looked sturdy all night in Tech’s fifth-straight victory over Louisville – including three in a row against ranked Cardinals sides.
 

 
Atlanta, Ga. native Adams knew that he was up for a test in the Hokies second ACC fixture of the season, as Louisville possessed the league’s leading scorer Gage Guerra, who had six goals in four games leading into the Friday night match that was broadcasted on the ACC Network. Furthermore, the Cardinals had scored multiple goals in four consecutive games, including six in its last two matches against No. 19 Kentucky and No. 4 Syracuse. The hosts lone goal on the evening came from outside the box in the sixth minute by Quinton Elliot.
 
With a commanding presence on the ball throughout the evening, Adams made three of his four saves in the second half, including a quick-reflex save to his right in the final minute of the match to preserve the 2-1 score line. 
 
Adams becomes the first Tech men’s soccer player to earn a player of the week nod from the ACC since Jacob Labovitz on Sept. 21, 2021. Nathan Durst was the last Virginia Tech player to be named Defensive Player of the Week on April 5, 2021.
