Second Ranked Win – Stanford University Athletics

STANFORD, Calif. – The Cardinal improved to 2-0 through the first weekend of action after taking down No. 17 Georgetown on Sunday, 5-1. It was Stanford’s second-straight win over a ranked opponent after topping No. 8 Creighton 3-1 on Thursday. 

“What an emphatic performance,” said The Knowles Family Director of Men’s Soccer Jeremy Gunn. “Georgetown is a very impressive team, and for our players to dismantle them like they did is a top quality performance.”

Despite the final scoreline, it was Georgetown who struck first in the match, finding the back of the net 10 minutes into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. 

“You always want to start well, and I thought our attitude was fantastic and that we were playing well,” said Gunn. “They put in a positive ball, ask a question of us, and their striker is very dangerous and gets the better of the center back. Suddenly, we’re a goal down when we thought we were playing well.”

But 12 minutes later, Noah Adnan evened the score with his first goal of the season, heading home a pass from Zach Bohane, the first of five straight goals for the Cardinal. Will Reilly found the back of the net next, launching a screamer of a volley into the top right corner to send Stanford into the break up 2-1.
